THISTED

Thisted – right next to Thy

There’s something special about Thisted. Here, Limfjorden meets wild Thy, and just outside town some of Denmark’s most impressive nature experiences await.

Thisted is a market town, a fjord town, and the gateway to Thy National Park. In no time, you can go from city life and cosy cafés to wide-open spaces, dune landscapes, and the North Sea. It’s a place where nature takes centre stage – and where you quickly understand why so many people fall in love with Thy.

A town with fjord views and a westerly breeze

Thisted sits beautifully on Limfjorden, and the water is never far away. From the harbour you can enjoy views across the fjord, while the town’s old market-town atmosphere invites you to stroll streets lined with shops, cafés, and historic buildings.

But Thisted isn’t only about the town. It’s also the starting point for experiences along the entire Thy coast, where the North Sea shows its raw and impressive side.

Thy is just around the corner

One of the best things about Thisted is how close it is to nature.

Thy National Park stretches along the west coast with dunes, heathland, lakes, and plantations. Here you can hike, cycle, go birdwatching, or simply find a spot with big skies and plenty of space.

And then, of course, there’s the sea.

In Klitmøller you’ll find Cold Hawaii, where the waves draw surfers from Denmark and around the world. In Vorupør you can experience the old tradition of fishing boats still being hauled up onto the beach. And at Hanstholm you’ll find a harbour, a lighthouse, and a history that has left clear marks on the landscape.

Experiences for young and old

Thisted and Thy are a great choice if you like to be active – but also if you prefer to take things a little slower.

Cycle through the West Jutland landscape, lace up your hiking boots and explore Thy National Park, take on the waves in Cold Hawaii, or find a quiet spot by Limfjorden with a fishing rod in hand.

You can also head out to some of the area’s many exciting attractions and small coastal communities. There’s always a new route to follow and a new place to discover.

The taste of Thy

Thy also has a strong food and drink culture, where local ingredients and skilled craftsmanship play a big role.

The area is known, among other things, for Thy Whisky, local produce, and a strong tradition of doing things properly. Quite simply, it tastes a little better when it comes with a story from the area.

As the day draws to a close

There’s something truly special about an evening in Thy.

The sun sets over the North Sea, the wind may drop for a while, and the landscape takes on colours that only Denmark’s west coast can deliver.

On a clear evening, you can see a starry sky far from the city lights. And maybe it’s right here you truly understand Thy’s greatest quality:

There’s space.

Space for nature. Space for experiences. Space for each other – and space to simply be.

Thisted isn’t just a place you visit. It’s a place you experience.

We look forward to welcoming you to Thisted and Thy – where Limfjorden, the North Sea, and magnificent nature meet.
